Skipping breakfast can raise your chances of developing heart disease, new research suggests. During the 16-year study, 7.3% of participants who reported regularly missing breakfast were diagnosed with coronary heart disease. Among their breakfast- eating counterparts 5.8% were diagnosed with CHD, amounting to a 27% relative reduction in risk. Eric Rimm, a professor of epidemiology and nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health and a senior author of the study, told me: "The study group was more healthy than the general population, but the risk increase in those missing breakfast is still
relevant. It's a factor roughly equivalent to the difference between exercising two or three times a week and not at all. "These findings overwhelmingly point to a very positive public health message: if you'd like to decrease your chance of heart disease, then you should definitely eat breakfast." Previous studies have highlighted breakfast's importance for lowering "associated risk factors" for CHD, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and cholesterol. Until now, however, a direct link to CHD has never been made. Rimm said: "There are lots of studies exploring the short-term health effects of skipping breakfast but ours was the first to look at those long-term, confirming a high relative
risk of heart disease for skippers." The researchers analysed questionnaire data and health outcomes for 26,902 male health professionals, aged 45-82. During the 16-year study period, 1,572 new cases of CHD were diagnosed. (Interestingly, although only 1.5% of the participants reported eating late at night, those who did were found to have a 55% increase in risk of CHD.) The results are published this week in the American journal Circulation. Despite only men being analysed, the results are thought to have wider implications, said Rimm. "We do have a parallel studyrunning which looks at similar factors in women, and the early results may be indicating the effects on diabetes, weight gain and blood
pressure are actually stronger than those in men … I think that lifestyle factors tend to be stronger in women than men. Women with diabetes, for instance, tend to have a higher risk of heart attack than men with diabetes." The study outlined how participants who missed breakfast had similar calorie intakes to those who did not, suggesting they ate more at later points in the day. The problem, Rimm said, is that this concentrated calorie intake over fewer meals puts"unnecessary stress" on the body, creating unhealthily large spikes of blood glucose that would be reduced by smaller, more frequent meals. Victoria Taylor, a senior dietitian at the British Heart Foundation, said: "In the morning rush it can be all too easy to skip breakfast, but this study suggests this could have a bigger impact on our health than we might think. "However, these researchers only looked at men aged over 45, so we would need to see further research to confirm that breakfast has the same impact on the heart health of
other groups of people."Rim acknowledges this point, but points out that other studies have found similarly adverse effects on younger people of skipping breakfast. More difficult in this study, Rimm said, was accounting for lifestyle differences between skippers and eaters, such as smoking, alcohol consumption and exercise. "We took those into account to the best of our abilities but of course there's still a chance that there are some residual effects that we can't account for statistically," he said."We realise this is only an observational study, but what we're seeing is probably more causation than correlation - if only because there's a whole body of literature now that suggests a biological phenomenon related to skipping breakfast."

EATING FISH REDUCES RISK OF SUFFERING CHRONIC DISEASES
Eating a weekly portion of salmon or regular servings of other fish such as cod could cut the risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis by more than half, research shows.
The omega-3 fatty acids in fish, especially oily fish, explain the dramatic drop in someone's chances of developing the chronic inflammatory disease that blights the life of an estimated 690,000 Britons. The Swedish study, reported in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases medical journal, is the latest authoritative endorsement by
medical researchers of fish's protective role against a range of illnesses. Consumption once a week of salmon or other fatty fish such as trout, kippers ormackerel reduces the risk of rheumatoid arthritis by 52%, according to researchers led by Professor Alice Wallin, of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. Eating lean fish such as cod, tinned tuna or haddock four times a week also confers the same benefit, they found. But they said that someone has to sustain such intake of fish for at least 10 years to enjoy the dramatic drop in their chances of. developing a condition which causes pain and swelling in joints. Long-term consumption of any type of fish. at least once a week is also useful, and is associated with a 29% lower risk of the disease, they added.

WILL JUAN MATA JOIN ARSENAL?
Arsene Wenger has claimed Juan Mata is up for sale - and admitted he likes him.
Chelsea playmaker Mata's father, and agent, Juan Senior was in the Emirates directors' box for the Gunners' Champions League win over Fenerbahce on Tuesday, and Wenger admitted later that he "may" have been a guest of the London club.It was an intriguing subplot to Arsenal's progress into the group phase, which came at a "heavy price" because Lukas Podolski, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey all suffered injuries to leave manager Wenger in even greater need of new signings.Podolski could be out for up to five weeks.
Mata, also linked with Arsenal's arch-rivals Tottenham, was an unused substitute in Chelsea's Monday night draw with Manchester United.
Wenger, who came close to signing Mata two years ago before he went to Chelsea, said: "Well, yes. I like him.

"I'm very happy to be here, it's been a dream of mine to come and play here," the winger told the Chelsea website.
"Chelsea are one of the best clubs in the world, and now I'm going to play for one of the best managers in the world, so I'm very happy and looking forward to it."
This comes after the Blues pipped Tottenham to the signature of former Corinthians man who has been capped twice for Brazil.

WHAT IS THE COST OF A FEMININE TEAR DROP?
Research shows that there is no tear drop more expensive than that of females.
LET'S ANALYSE TOGETHER.
When a single tear drop comes out, It first mixes with 'Loreal' eyeliner (N850) 'Dior' mascara (N1,000 ) Then when it rolls down the cheek It mixes with 'D&G' blusher (N2,500)… wets Loreal bronze (N1,500)...
Black Opral loose powder (N3,000)...
Disfigures Marykay foundation (N1,600)
Finally when it touches the lips
It gets mixed with
Marykay lipstick(N3,500 )… This means that a single drop
Is running about N13, 950naira.!!!

HOW SAFE IS ARIK AIR?
The state of insecurity in Nigeria is of great concern and every sector in Nigeria needs to be at alert .The state of carelessness of ARIK air which is considered to be the best airline in Nigeria that operates local flight was revealed yesterday as a young teenager stowed away into a flight from Benin city in Edo state Nigeria bound for Lagos . The young boy was seen as the passengers were alighting from the aircraft and was immediately handed over to the security operatives in the Airport. This incident tells us how careless our Airline operatives are , I still cant believe that ARIK air can be this careless. It means that a member of the Boko haram sect can stow away into any Airplane and blow it up . This incident should be an eye opener to our Airline Operatives including other sectors of the economy to take security serious. The question now is how safe is ARIK air?

FG DISBURSES 130 BILLION NAIRA TO NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES
THE Federal Government has ordered the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to immediately return back to classrooms as all issues are being resolved. Government's position was anchored on its release of the N130 billion covering N30 billion for earned allowance of lecturers and N100 billion for infrastructural upgrade for public universities yesterday in Abuja. The contentious N92 billion earned allowances as demanded by ASUU cannot be released as government said it is a merited allowance, which should be determined by council of various universities. It has therefore directed the various councils to put machineries in place to determine lecturers who merit the earned allowance and begin payments accordingly. Speaking at a meeting with Pro-Chancellors and Vice Chancellors of public universities in the country, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim
Pius Anyim stated: " We are pleased to say that the committee has completed its work and the report has been approved by the Federal Executive Council and the
National Economic Council. The President has set up the Governor Suswan Committee for its implementation. N100 billion has been harnessed for the committee's
disbursement and 61 universities in the country are benefiting from this take-off programme. "Traditionally, universities pay this to deserving staff but because of the amount which ASUU claims as arrears, government decided to assist the university councils to pay. It should be noted that government did not receive any computation of amount involved until February 2013. By this. computation, ASUU is claiming N92 billion as arrears for three years' payment based on percentage range of between 15 and 20 per cent of personal cost." Chairman, Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Federal Universities, Prof. Kimse Okoko, commended government for its efforts. Okoko called on chancellors to use the funds judiciously while appealing to ASUU to call off the strike.
Prof. Mohammed Hamise, Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors commended government for the N30 billion to university councils to defray the arrears of the peculiar allowances.

FG - ASUU TALKS CRASH - FG NOT READY TO END STRIKE AFTER 10 UNSUCCESFUL MEETINGS
After 10 unsuccessful meetings with the Federal Government, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, yesterday said government was not ready to end the 8-week-old strike, lamenting thatgovernment displayed dishonesty and lack of integrity during negotiations.
At a briefing in Lagos, ASUU's President, Dr. Isa Faggae, claimed that government had declared it would not implement the agreed injection of funds to revitalise the public universities, but was only making a dubious
statement of supporting some universities with N100 billion. He said: "Government had also declared that
it will not pay university academics their earned allowances which accumulated from2009 to 2013. Rather, it is talking about providing N30 billion to assist various
Governing Councils of Federal Universities to defray the arrears of N92 billion owed to all categories of staff in the university system." Narrating the union's experience at the last meeting with the Government held on Monday,
Faggae said: ASUU was shocked by the level. of deceit, dishonesty, and lack of integrity. displayed by the Government. Never in the history of ASUU-Government relations have we, as a union, ever experienced the kind of volte-face exhibited by Government. At one stage in the interaction, the Secretary to the Government Federation ridiculed the agreement, the MoU and the Needs Assessment Report, mocking the Minister of
Education to "go and give them N400 billion," at which members of the government scornfully laughed."
He argued that the Governor Gabriel Suswam-led Implementation Committee was being used as smokescreen to "deceive ASUU, Nigerian students and their parents, as well as other unsuspecting members of the public on the purportedly released N100 billion for the implementation of the Needs Assessment Report.

FACEBOOK CEO MARK ZUCKERBERG'S FACEBOOK PAGE GOT HACKED
A Palestinian researcher posted a message on Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's page last week after he says the site's security team didn't take his warnings about a security flaw seriously. "First, sorry for breaking your privacy and posting on your wall," wrote Khalil Shreateh. "I have no other choice to make after all the reports I sent to (the) Facebook team." Shreateh, who describes himself as an unemployed security researcher with a degree in information systems, said he found a hole in
Facebook's systems that let him post to any user's page, including users not on his Friends list. Such an exploit would be a virtual gold mine for spammers, scam artists and others seeking to take advantage of the site's roughly 1 billion users worldwide. On his blog, Shreateh posted a series of e- mails he said were exchanged between him and Facebook security. After the first one, a Facebook employee responded that the link he attached was bad.
Shreateh had included a post -- an Enrique Iglesias video -- he says he posted on the page of a woman who went to college with Zuckerberg. He speculated that Facebook's
security team couldn't see it because they weren't on her Friends list. Somebody buy Mark Zuckerberg some clothes
Facebook responded to his second message to say theissue he was reporting was not a bug. His response: "ok that means I have no choice other than report this to mark himself on facebook."

AN UPDATE ON KOBE BRYANT's TORN ACHILLES TENDON
From the minute Kobe Bryant tore his Achilles tendon in mid-April, the details of his recovery have been deemed newsworthy, from the course of his rehabilitation to his adjusted plans for the future. For the most part, we've had to trust Bryant's tales of recovery at his word, because fans typically don't get to watch players train for days on
end (and, if they did, they would probably get bored quickly). In this case, it helps that Kobe has proven his willingness and ability to battle through injuries at any cost. Luckily, we now have an image of Kobe's progress, albeit one that doesn't tell us exactly how close he is to returning to in-game action. On Monday, Bryant posted a video of himself running on an anti-gravity to his
Instagram account. Given the machine and length of the video, it's tough to know exactly how much weight Kobe is putting on his legs, how quickly he can accelerate, and what sort of strain this activity puts on his body. However, it's definitely progress. The problem is that we can't actually project anything from this video — as ever, Kobe will be ready when he's ready. A clip like this one
doesn't contain much information, but it should give basketball fans a bit of an emotional lift. At least we know the man can move again.

A ONE HOUR CNN DOCUMENTARY ON PRINCE WILLIAM'S PASSION: New Hope,New father to air Sept 15
The second in line to the British throne has described his joy at introducing his son to the world on the steps of a London hospital last month — and about his nerves over fitting the car seat securely into the Land Rover before
driving off. As for the nearly 1-month-old baby, William referred to him as "a little bit of a rascal" who he said reminded him of his younger brother, Prince Harry. Striking a slightly exasperated tone familiar to many new fathers, he said he wished Prince George would settle down a little. "At the moment, the only legacy I want to pass on to him is to sleep more and maybe not have to change his nappy so many times." The interview is part of a one-hour CNN documentary, "Prince William's Passion: New Hope, New Father," due to air on Sept. 15

BLACKBERRY Z30 LEAKED IN LIVE PICTURES
BlackBerry Z30 has already leaked in live pictures, we learned its specs and we even saw it star in a six-minute video. It's supposed to be Z10's bigger sibling with a 5.0" OLED 720p display, but to keep the same internals.
Latest piece of info comes from the Wireless Power Consortium, where the BlackBerry Z30 is listed as a Qi wireless charging compatible device.
We don't know yet if you'll need an additional accessory cover (like the Lumia smartphones), or the feature will be available out of the box. We guess we'll have to wait for the official announcement.
BlackBerry is having some trouble lately and is seeking for alternatives and considers a potential buyer. Let's hope this won't impact the development of the rumored BlackBerry Z30 and BlackBerry Z15 QWERTY/touch hybrid.

FG CAN'T MEET ASUU DEMANDS: DR. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala
Nigeria's Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has expressed her pessimism that the current strike action embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, might not be called off soon, as the
federal government does not have enough to meet the union's demands. Okonjo-Iweala was speaking today in Minna at the annual National Council on Finance and Economic Development meeting, with the theme "Restructuring Nigeria's Finances", where she revealed that the University lecturers were demanding N92billion in extra allowances. She made it clear that the FG cannot meet up with the stated amount, as it is trying to reduce the structure of public expenditure. She said: "At present ASUU wants the government to pay N92 billion in extra
allowances when resources are not there and when we are working to integrate past increases in pensions. We need to make choices in this country as we are getting to the stage where recurrent expenditures take the bulk of our resources and people get paid but can do no work. Okonjo-Iweala also argued that if these demands are met, and "we continue to pay them salaries and allowances, we will not be able to provide infrastructure in the universities."
How long is this strike going to last?? Only time will tell.

#BBATHECHASE : BEVERLY OSU HAS MADE HISTORY
Nigeria's own model, Beverly Osu, has made history by being the first Big Brother Africa contestant that has not been nominated for eviction since the inception of the television series in 2003.
Though critised and condemned by many Nigerians, the lingerie model and video vixen seems to be in the good books of the other housemates who have not for once put her up for eviction.
Beverly, who has been the head of house twice, hasn't had any need to save herself. The final nominations just took place and despite the scandalous videos circulated about her and Angelo, Beverly and Melvin, Nigeria's female contestant has managed to scale through to the finals.
The top seven contestants in the house are, Beverly, Melvin, Angelo, Cleo, Dilish, Bimp and Elikem. Who will make it to the top five and who will eventually take the coveted $300,000 home?
