HOW SAFE IS ARIK AIR?

The state of insecurity in Nigeria is of great concern and every sector in Nigeria needs to be at alert .The state of carelessness of ARIK air which is considered to be the best airline in Nigeria that operates local flight was revealed yesterday as a young teenager stowed away into a flight from Benin city in Edo state Nigeria bound for Lagos . The young boy was seen as the passengers were alighting from the aircraft and was immediately handed over to the security operatives in the Airport. This incident tells us how careless our Airline operatives are , I still cant believe that ARIK air can be this careless. It means that a member of the Boko haram sect can stow away into any Airplane and blow it up . This incident should be an eye opener to our Airline Operatives including other sectors of the economy to take security serious. The question now is how safe is ARIK air?

FG DISBURSES 130 BILLION NAIRA TO NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES

THE Federal Government has ordered the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to immediately return back to classrooms as all issues are being resolved. Government's position was anchored on its release of the N130 billion covering N30 billion for earned allowance of lecturers and N100 billion for infrastructural upgrade for public universities yesterday in Abuja. The contentious N92 billion earned allowances as demanded by ASUU cannot be released as government said it is a merited allowance, which should be determined by council of various universities. It has therefore directed the various councils to put machineries in place to determine lecturers who merit the earned allowance and begin payments accordingly. Speaking at a meeting with Pro-Chancellors and Vice Chancellors of public universities in the country, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim
Pius Anyim stated: " We are pleased to say that the committee has completed its work and the report has been approved by the Federal Executive Council and the
National Economic Council. The President has set up the Governor Suswan Committee for its implementation. N100 billion has been harnessed for the committee's
disbursement and 61 universities in the country are benefiting from this take-off programme. "Traditionally, universities pay this to deserving staff but because of the amount which ASUU claims as arrears, government decided to assist the university councils to pay. It should be noted that government did not receive any computation of amount involved until February 2013. By this. computation, ASUU is claiming N92 billion as arrears for three years' payment based on percentage range of between 15 and 20 per cent of personal cost." Chairman, Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Federal Universities, Prof. Kimse Okoko, commended government for its efforts. Okoko called on chancellors to use the funds judiciously while appealing to ASUU to call off the strike.
Prof. Mohammed Hamise, Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors commended government for the N30 billion to university councils to defray the arrears of the peculiar allowances.

FG - ASUU TALKS CRASH - FG NOT READY TO END STRIKE AFTER 10 UNSUCCESFUL MEETINGS

After 10 unsuccessful meetings with the Federal Government, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, yesterday said government was not ready to end the 8-week-old strike, lamenting thatgovernment displayed dishonesty and lack of integrity during negotiations.
At a briefing in Lagos, ASUU's President, Dr. Isa Faggae, claimed that government had declared it would not implement the agreed injection of funds to revitalise the public universities, but was only making a dubious
statement of supporting some universities with N100 billion. He said: "Government had also declared that
it will not pay university academics their earned allowances which accumulated from2009 to 2013. Rather, it is talking about providing N30 billion to assist various
Governing Councils of Federal Universities to defray the arrears of N92 billion owed to all categories of staff in the university system." Narrating the union's experience at the last meeting with the Government held on Monday,
Faggae said: ASUU was shocked by the level. of deceit, dishonesty, and lack of integrity. displayed by the Government. Never in the history of ASUU-Government relations have we, as a union, ever experienced the kind of volte-face exhibited by Government. At one stage in the interaction, the Secretary to the Government Federation ridiculed the agreement, the MoU and the Needs Assessment Report, mocking the Minister of
Education to "go and give them N400 billion," at which members of the government scornfully laughed."
He argued that the Governor Gabriel Suswam-led Implementation Committee was being used as smokescreen to "deceive ASUU, Nigerian students and their parents, as well as other unsuspecting members of the public on the purportedly released N100 billion for the implementation of the Needs Assessment Report.

FACEBOOK CEO MARK ZUCKERBERG'S FACEBOOK PAGE GOT HACKED

A Palestinian researcher posted a message on Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's page last week after he says the site's security team didn't take his warnings about a security flaw seriously. "First, sorry for breaking your privacy and posting on your wall," wrote Khalil Shreateh. "I have no other choice to make after all the reports I sent to (the) Facebook team." Shreateh, who describes himself as an unemployed security researcher with a degree in information systems, said he found a hole in
Facebook's systems that let him post to any user's page, including users not on his Friends list. Such an exploit would be a virtual gold mine for spammers, scam artists and others seeking to take advantage of the site's roughly 1 billion users worldwide. On his blog, Shreateh posted a series of e- mails he said were exchanged between him and Facebook security. After the first one, a Facebook employee responded that the link he attached was bad.
Shreateh had included a post -- an Enrique Iglesias video -- he says he posted on the page of a woman who went to college with Zuckerberg. He speculated that Facebook's
security team couldn't see it because they weren't on her Friends list. Somebody buy Mark Zuckerberg some clothes
Facebook responded to his second message to say theissue he was reporting was not a bug. His response: "ok that means I have no choice other than report this to mark himself on facebook."

AN UPDATE ON KOBE BRYANT's TORN ACHILLES TENDON

From the minute Kobe Bryant tore his Achilles tendon in mid-April, the details of his recovery have been deemed newsworthy, from the course of his rehabilitation to his adjusted plans for the future. For the most part, we've had to trust Bryant's tales of recovery at his word, because fans typically don't get to watch players train for days on
end (and, if they did, they would probably get bored quickly). In this case, it helps that Kobe has proven his willingness and ability to battle through injuries at any cost. Luckily, we now have an image of Kobe's progress, albeit one that doesn't tell us exactly how close he is to returning to in-game action. On Monday, Bryant posted a video of himself running on an anti-gravity to his
Instagram account. Given the machine and length of the video, it's tough to know exactly how much weight Kobe is putting on his legs, how quickly he can accelerate, and what sort of strain this activity puts on his body. However, it's definitely progress. The problem is that we can't actually project anything from this video — as ever, Kobe will be ready when he's ready. A clip like this one
doesn't contain much information, but it should give basketball fans a bit of an emotional lift. At least we know the man can move again.

A ONE HOUR CNN DOCUMENTARY ON PRINCE WILLIAM'S PASSION: New Hope,New father to air Sept 15

The second in line to the British throne has described his joy at introducing his son to the world on the steps of a London hospital last month — and about his nerves over fitting the car seat securely into the Land Rover before
driving off. As for the nearly 1-month-old baby, William referred to him as "a little bit of a rascal" who he said reminded him of his younger brother, Prince Harry. Striking a slightly exasperated tone familiar to many new fathers, he said he wished Prince George would settle down a little. "At the moment, the only legacy I want to pass on to him is to sleep more and maybe not have to change his nappy so many times." The interview is part of a one-hour CNN documentary, "Prince William's Passion: New Hope, New Father," due to air on Sept. 15

BLACKBERRY Z30 LEAKED IN LIVE PICTURES

BlackBerry Z30 has already leaked in live pictures, we learned its specs and we even saw it star in a six-minute video. It's supposed to be Z10's bigger sibling with a 5.0" OLED 720p display, but to keep the same internals.

Latest piece of info comes from the Wireless Power Consortium, where the BlackBerry Z30 is listed as a Qi wireless charging compatible device.

We don't know yet if you'll need an additional accessory cover (like the Lumia smartphones), or the feature will be available out of the box. We guess we'll have to wait for the official announcement.

BlackBerry is having some trouble lately and is seeking for alternatives and considers a potential buyer. Let's hope this won't impact the development of the rumored BlackBerry Z30 and BlackBerry Z15 QWERTY/touch hybrid.

FG CAN'T MEET ASUU DEMANDS: DR. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala

Nigeria's Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has expressed her pessimism that the current strike action embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, might not be called off soon, as the
federal government does not have enough to meet the union's demands. Okonjo-Iweala was speaking today in Minna at the annual National Council on Finance and Economic Development meeting, with the theme "Restructuring Nigeria's Finances", where she revealed that the University lecturers were demanding N92billion in extra allowances. She made it clear that the FG cannot meet up with the stated amount, as it is trying to reduce the structure of public expenditure. She said: "At present ASUU wants the government to pay N92 billion in extra
allowances when resources are not there and when we are working to integrate past increases in pensions. We need to make choices in this country as we are getting to the stage where recurrent expenditures take the bulk of our resources and people get paid but can do no work. Okonjo-Iweala also argued that if these demands are met, and "we continue to pay them salaries and allowances, we will not be able to provide infrastructure in the universities."
How long is this strike going to last?? Only time will tell.

#BBATHECHASE : BEVERLY OSU HAS MADE HISTORY

Nigeria's own model, Beverly Osu, has made history by being the first Big Brother Africa contestant that has not been nominated for eviction since the inception of the television series in 2003.

Though critised and condemned by many Nigerians, the lingerie model and video vixen seems to be in the good books of the other housemates who have not for once put her up for eviction.

Beverly, who has been the head of house twice, hasn't had any need to save herself. The final nominations just took place and despite the scandalous videos circulated about her and Angelo, Beverly and Melvin, Nigeria's female contestant has managed to scale through to the finals.

The top seven contestants in the house are, Beverly, Melvin, Angelo, Cleo, Dilish, Bimp and Elikem. Who will  make it to the top five and who will eventually take the coveted $300,000 home?

CALIFORNIA BILLIONAIRE, ELON MUSK UNVEILS FUTURISTIC 'HYPERLOOP' TRANSPORT.

California billionaire Elon Musk took the wraps off his vision of a futuristic "Hyperloop" transport system on Monday, proposing to build a solar- powered network of crash-proof capsules that would whisk people from San Francisco to LosAngeles in half an hour. In a blog post, Musk, the chief executive of electric car maker Tesla Motors described in detail a system that, if successful, would do nothing short of revolutionizing intercity transportation. But first the plan would have to overcome questions about its safety and financing. The Hyperloop, which Musk previously described as a cross between a Concorde, rail gun and air-hockey table, would cost an estimated $6 billion to build and construction would take 7 to 10 years. Eventually, according to the plan, it would jettison more than 7 million people a year along one of the U.S. West Coast's busiest traffic corridors. As many as 28 passengers could ride in each pod and the system could even transport vehicles, according to the 57-page design plan. Musk, who in the past has hinted at the hopes of building such a system, proposed the Hyperloop as an alternative to a $68 billion high-speed rail project that's a major priority of California Governor Jerry Brown. It would be safer, faster, less expensive and more convenient, Musk said in the blog post. But not everyone is convinced the project is a good idea. Jim Powell, a co-inventor of the bullet train and director of Maglev 2000, which develops high-speed transport systems using magnetic levitation, said the system would be highly vulnerable to a terrorist attack or accident. "The biggest overall problem is the idea of the low pressure tube from a terrorist standpoint," he told Reuters after taking an initial look at Musk's specifications. "All a terrorist driving along the highway has to do is pull over, toss a net of explosives at it, and then everyone in the tube dies," he said. Musk said that since the tube will be low- but not zero-pressure, standard air pumps could easily overcome an air leak.

T.A ORJI's ADMINISTRATION EXPOSED (part2)

Continued from last weeks post , check through this link
http://lifesgists.blogspot.com/2013/08/ta-orjis-administration-exposed.html?m=1

He also lamented what he referred to as the mother of all deceptions during the time of questions and answers by the moderator who he accused of being bias. According to him, passive members of the public were tactically schemed out of participation. Rather some obnoxious paid
praise singers who were strategically positioned in the auditorium were selected. "Instead of questions, what we saw to our bewilderment were eulogies and commendations for the Governor. Your Excellency sir, we want to know
if it is your money you are using to do all these wonders. You have done excellently well; we have not seen this type of Governor before. A lot have been done in the rural communities. We appreciate you, thank you sir. Can you imagine such ignorance? There is absolutely nothing to
show for his six years administration in the urban areas and some people were repulsively talking about development in the rural communities" he concluded disappointingly. He blamed the deceit on the Good Governance team, for their lack of efforts to ascertaining the actual level of development at least by
visiting some of the rural communities. He maintained that the state is at the verge of collapsing if nothing is done urgently. He wondered why a Governor who should be an
epitome of integrity would resort to deception and cheap lies. According to him, that was not the first time the Governor would display such deceptive trait. He recalled how Governor T.A Orji publicly lied to the Governor of Sokoto state, Aliyu Wamakko during his visit to Abia
state before the very eyes of the media. His words, "Chief T.A Orji took Governor Wamakko of Sokoto state to Bende road just in front of Abia tower off Aba road and publicly told him that his administration has transformed
the major road from single carriage to dual carriage road up to Arochukwu whereas, the dual carriage stopped at Isieke Ibeku primary school less than 10 kilometers from the tower. The most worrisome aspect of it all is that it was done before the very eyes of journalists who
incidentally are also residents here. They know the truth but choose to report lies to the public who they ought to be their trustees. They keep snapping and placing Secretariat road on the pages of newspapers as if it's the only road we have in Abia state. Try to visit our public
schools, you will feel sorry for the teachers and students" he said regrettably. To authenticate the verity of these claims, our correspondent drove through the road and found out that the dual carriage actually stopped at
Isieke Ibeku primary school and not to Arochukwu as the Governor allegedly claimed. In fact majority of motorists and tricycle riders, who ply the road often, told our correspondent that the road from that point to Bende and
other nearby villages is very deplorable and constitutes a death trap to users. A visit to several public secondary and primary schools within the 17 local government areas of the state also shows that the Education sector in
Abia state is obviously in comatose contrary to the Governor's speech on democracy day. Almost all the school buildings in the state are virtually dilapidated with leaky roofs, broken furniture, doors and windows; some completely abandoned, with heaps of refuse, human excreta and over grown grasses a common sight. There is
a complete absence of modern communication technology such as, computers which is today institutionalized by the educational system. No modern black boards and clean toilets, no functional science laboratory, library, sports
development equipment and technical workshop for the technical colleges. A situation some teachers in the state described as pitiable. A teacher in Holy Ghost Technical College Umuahia (one of the schools, Abia state government recently handed over to the churches) who asked the School Senior Prefect to take our correspondent round the school premises decried the state of education in Abia state and wondered why the state government has decided to toy with the future of the state. Her words, "you can see for yourself the state
of the school government said they returned to the original owners. If you had come here some few months back you will feel sorry for this state. Our principal, the Reverend Father has done much in terms of renovation still, it seem as if nothing has been done. How can a
responsible government say they have handed over a school with all these dilapidated buildings to a church without a takeoff grant"? She asked angrily. According to her, the only responsibility the state government reluctantly accepted is the payment of teachers' salaries for a period of time, while the churches take the
responsibility of the day-to-day running the schools.
She also lamented the disdainful manner teachers in the state are being treated by the state government. She insisted that teachers in the state are not motivated at all; accusing the state government of making life unbearable for them by their constant renege from promises. She cited the delay by the state government to implementing the 27 per cent teacher's salary scale and pro rata recently introduced by the state government to buttress her point. Her words, "the Governor promised to implement
the teacher's salary scale in 2010 and nothing was done until we were forced to embark on an industrial action. Truce was later brokered when he promised to implement it onSeptember, 2011 and the strike was called off. But once again he reneged and moved it to 2012 with a promise that the arrears will be paid together. It was the threat of industrial action by Nigerian Labour Congress and Nigerian Union of Teachers that forced him to pay March and April 2013 salaries in line with the TSS which is even a stipend. For the past four years now, leave allowances, which is the 10 per cent of our annual salaries have not been given to us. Yet the Governor introduced pro rata to ensure that what is given to teachers is tactically taken back. As at July, May salaries have not
been paid and somebody is talking about pro rata". She said frustratingly. To be continued next week. Log on http://lifesgists.blogspot.com.

SOME MEN RAPE THEIR WIVES - Apostle Adenuga.

General Overseer of Faith Revival Apostolic Church, Egbeda, Lagos Apostle Paul Taiwo Adenuga does not
mince words. He says it according to his conviction. Take this from him: "There is a message I can regard as my favourite, it is titled: "Holy Raping". You see today, some men including those who profess Christianity harass their wives sèxually. It is not supposed to be like that. The gospel we are preaching is the gospel of peace. Any gospel that cannot bring peace into the family is not of God. Some men have turned their holy matrimony to holy rÇ¡ping. I am referring to a situation where a man insists on having sèx with his wife whether the woman is sick or
in pains. It is wickedness to force your spouse to sleep with you against her will. Some men may defend such action, saying after all they did not go out to fornicate. But it is ràpe. "Forcing your wife to sleep with you is unholy even though you are in holy matrimony. I am putting my views on this issue together in book form
because God must use someone to correct our fathers' mistakes. Past generations have faced this problem and the present generation is still facing it. But everybody just kept quiet; everybody is enduring it. Women cannot go to their parents to report that. "In this manner, some married women are practicing holy prostitution. Such women will tell their husbands if you don't give me money to buy certain clothes, bags, shoes or whatever, I will not allow you to sleep with me. It is wrong. All these should stop." Indeed, Apostle Adenuga, who is also President, Apostle Paul Gospel Outreach preaches the word of God with uncommon passion. Like an old time prophet, his messages are not diluted. At a time some of his colleagues are harping on prosperity, the indigene of Ago-Iwoye in Ijebu North Local Government Area, Ogun State maintains that salvation is the most crucial thing. He attributed the nation's unhealthy moral temperature to greed and lack of fear of God
