Anti-gay law: Canada denies cancelling Jonathan’s planned visit

The Canadian Government has dismissed reports that it cancelled a planned visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to the country.
This clarification was made known by the Canadian Counsellor in Abuja, Ms Alexandra Mackenzie, in an interview with Punch.
Mackenzie said that there was never a scheduled visit of Mr. Jonathan to the country in the first place.
She, however, assured that her country will be glad to welcome the Nigerian leader whenever he so wishes to visit.
“Canada and Nigeria enjoy shared interest in expanding opportunities for economic, social and security cooperation between our two countries” she said.
“No visit is scheduled. However, we look forward to the opportunities of welcoming President Goodluck Jonathan to Canada at a future date.”
The media was last week awashed with reports that the country has stopped President Jonathan from visiting, because he signed the anti-gay bill which bans same-sex marriage in Nigeria.
Last Monday, Presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati, announced that his principal had assented the bill.
The European Union countries including Canada, as well as some international organizations, have since declared opposition to the law, saying it negates human rights and freedom of expression.

IYANYA : NIGERIAN ENTERTAINERS ARE FORCED TO LIVE LARGE

During a recent interview with Encomium magazine, singer Iyanya gave an insight into why some Nigerian
entertainers are forced to live large. Excerpts…
"Why do you think some artistes come come up with hit songs and find it difficult to maintain it?" Iyanya "Music is very expensive. Most of them make money
and its had to put it back in the same thing. Your next money is not guaranteed because there are lots of artistes. If you say you wouldn't do show A, they can take artiste B for that show. It doesn't mean that because you have a hit song, you would be performing at all shows. It doesn't work like that. So, some of these guys, its hard for them. Its hard forthem to follow up.
Follow up is the hardest thing to do. Many artistes make a hit but the money they make from that hit is not even enough forthem to support or sponsor the next video. So
don't blame them'. Continue… So they need a lot of money to remain relevant? Iyanya "Yes

Let me give you an instance. I had a show here in
Lagos, I was in Dubai. They made a mistake and booked my flight for Monday and the show was on Sunday. We rushed to the airport, they said no that my ticket was forthe next day. After much pleading and explaining that I had a show that night in Lagos, they said alright. I could board but not business class since it wasn't my flight. I had to fly economy class with my business class ticket. Sitting down there, people around where staring at me like what am I doing here. A woman even walked
up to me and said "Iyanya, you no suppose dey here now, na the other side you suppose dey". What came to my mind next was that I can't just decide to fly economy today, it will become gist. I have to work hard, I have to make money, to live up to your expectations. It's not like am living my life for you but its the life I chose. So, I have to do it".

FORMER SUPER EAGLES COACH CHRISTAN CHUKWU ADVISED KESHI TO MAKE SURE THE PLAYERS AVOIDS SEX AS THE PREPARE FOR THE WORLD CUP.

As the Super Eagles prepare to face the world at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the team's former head coach,
Christian Chukwu has advised the current manager, Stephen Keshi to ensure that his wards stay away from
séx before and during the competition. Chukwu, a one-time skipper of the Super Eagles and manager of the Kenya national team, disclosed that the only sure way to achieve success in Brazil is total discipline of players, dedication and respect to the rules and regulations of the camp, stressing that in his days as player and coach in the team, that séx was a taboo to him. The former captain of Rangers Football Club gave this charge in an interview with this reporter. On the the level of preparation he envisages for the Eagles ahead of the World Cup in Brazil, Chukwu said, "The World Cup is not for rookies or disco dancers, it is for senior boys that are ready to stake their careers for the passion and love they have for the round leather game and at the same time make money and name for themselves. "It's like a war front, when you are preparing for a war against an opponent, you have to make sure that everything that you have to win the war is in proper shape so that you will not give your enemies the chance to over poweryour squad. "So for our country to excel at the World Cup, we must put in everything, our build-up for the championship must be of a high standard. Yes, we have world class players that can match the likes of Messi, Gerrard, Ronaldo, Juan Mata among others, but they must be ready to put their pride aside, obey
their managers, play as one united side, avoid selfish game, and above all be totally disciplined. Because without discipline, there is no two ways to
victory." He also believes the teams has to prove they are true African champions and make the country proud.
"Another sure way to achieve success in the 2014 World Cup competition is for the entire technical crew to have an eye on the players, there are certain things the players must keep away from like séx,we did it during our own time. In my days as a player even as a coach, I made it a point of duty to stay away from women, because sex has a lot of spiritual things attached to it."
The former head coach is sure that Keshi should make sure that the players are away from séx to tally. He believes in this case they will be do well at the Championship.
