Kyiv striker Brown Ideye believes his partnership with Spartak Moscow
hitman Emmanuel Emenike can yield the Super Eagles their third gold
medal at the South Africa 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
But the former France-based player
expects a difficult match against Burkina Faso in Johannesburg on
Sunday.
Nigeria beat Mali 4-1 on Wednesday to
set up cup final against the Stallions, who sent out Ghana from the
tournament on penalties in the second semifinal . A win for the Eagles
will see them ruling Africa again, having won at home in 1980 and at
Tunisia’ 94.
Ideye, who scored the second for the
Eagles, told our correspondent that he had struck a good understanding
with Emenike, who he described as an “unselfish playmate”.
The former Ocean Boys star said,
“Emenike is strong and understands being a partner to another striker.
“It’s rare to find a partner who
understands the way you want a pass to come. We have only being together
for a few weeks but there is great understanding between us.
“He knows when to slow down the ball and
keep it until there is someone to play with. A selfish partner can be
frustrating but with him, you only need to be at the right place to get
the right pass.”
The 24-year-old added, “We have played
Burkina Faso in the group stage and we know how they play. But they
also understand our style too, so it’s going to be a difficult game.”
He praised the efforts of Mikel Obi in
the tournament, saying the Chelsea midfielder’s performance had been
inspirational.
Ideye said, “Mikel works very hard,
plays for the team and helps even outside his position.
“Coach (Stephen) Keshi likes players
who work hard and play to his plan.
“I’ve played at the back and in the
midfield in this competition, especially when our opponents are
threatening us.”
